The Horizon West master-planned community in west Orange County has been one of Central Florida’s fastest-growing communities, but it’s been hard to quantify that success because there were no entities that tracked progress.
Now, a group of businesses in the area has taken on that challenge, banding together to form the Horizon West Coalition. The coalition kicked off with the launch of a website and 36-page magazine to provide facts and information about the Horizon West area, as well as what’s coming in the future, said a news release.
The community is made up of five “villages” and a town center — where Orlando-based Boyd Development Corp. is building the $1 billion Hamlin mixed-use community. More than 15,000 people live in Horizon West, just a quarter of the projected population and the area has about 25 percent of Central Florida’s new home production, the release said.

Meanwhile, Boyd Development last month unveiled the first phase of infrastructure at Hamlin, which at buildout is expected to create $100 million in annual economic impact and 8,200 jobs.
